WHAT IS DOG NEUTERING AND SPAYING?
Neutering refers to the surgical removal of a dog's reproductive organs. In male dogs, this is called castration — the removal of both testicles under general anaesthetic. In female dogs, this is called spaying — the surgical removal of the ovaries and usually the uterus (ovariohysterectomy) or just the ovaries (ovariectomy), performed under GA.
Both procedures are routine, safe, and widely recommended by vets in the UK for the following reasons: prevention of unwanted pregnancies; significant reduction in the risk of certain cancers (mammary tumours in females, testicular cancer in males); elimination of the risk of pyometra (life-threatening uterine infection) in females; and reduction of certain behavioural issues in males.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic and typically takes 20–60 minutes. Recovery is usually 10–14 days with restricted exercise.

HOW MUCH DOES DOG NEUTERING COST IN LONDON?
Dog neutering in London typically costs £300–£650 depending on the dog's sex, size, and the specific procedure. Spaying a female dog is generally more expensive than castrating a male due to the more complex nature of the surgery. Pre-anaesthetic blood tests may be required and are often billed separately.
At Snoots, the complete neutering procedure is included in every membership. There is no additional charge.

WHEN SHOULD I NEUTER MY DOG?
The right timing for neutering depends on your dog's breed, size and sex. General guidance: small breeds can usually be neutered from around 6 months; large and giant breeds may benefit from waiting until 12–24 months for full skeletal maturity. Your Snoots vet will recommend the right timing for your specific dog at one of their early wellness visits.
DOG NEUTERING QUESTIONS
Dog neutering in London costs £200–£350 for male castration and £300–£650 for female spaying, depending on the dog's size. Pre-anaesthetic blood tests may add £80–£150. At Snoots, the complete neutering procedure including pre-anaesthetic blood tests is included in every membership at £30/month.
Timing depends on breed and size. Small breeds are typically neutered from around 6 months; large and giant breeds may benefit from waiting until 12–24 months for full skeletal development. Female dogs should ideally be spayed before their first season or 3 months after a season. Your Snoots vet will recommend the right timing for your dog.
Yes. Dog neutering and spaying is included in every Snoots membership at £30/month. Both male castration and female spaying are covered — scheduled when your vet recommends it, with no additional charge.
Most dogs recover well within 10–14 days. During this time, exercise should be restricted and the surgical site kept clean and dry. Your Snoots vet will provide full aftercare instructions and follow-up check-ups are included in your membership.
'Neutering' is the general term for surgical sterilisation in both sexes. In males, the specific procedure is castration (removal of testicles). In females, it is spaying (removal of ovaries ± uterus). Both are included in Snoots membership.
Yes. For females, spaying significantly reduces the risk of mammary tumours (if done before the second season) and eliminates the risk of pyometra — a life-threatening uterine infection affecting up to 25% of unspayed females. For males, castration eliminates testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate disease. Your vet will discuss the individual benefits and timing for your dog.
